ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

GOOD MORNING! We are happy you have joined us today to praise, listen and be fed by Almighty God.  Whoever you are and wherever you are on your journey of faith, you are welcome here!  Holy Communion is celebrated at each worship service and we invite all believers to receive the sacrament with us. Children who commune at their home church are also welcome here; if your child does not commune please bring him/her to the table for a blessing.  The ushers will direct you to the table. Please extend your hand if you desire to commune.

 

THE ALTAR FLOWERS today are given to the glory of God by Ron & Charlene Barth in honor of Ron’s birthday.

 

THANK YOU to Hattie Groth and Karen Adams for the treats after worship this past Sunday.  They served 103.

 

LENTEN SOUP SUPPERS will begin Wednesday, February 24 at 6 pm.

Would you be willing to make soup, donate cheese & crackers, celery & carrots or bars & cookies?  A sign up sheet will be on the counter in the Fellowship Hall.  We would appreciate your helping with the soup suppers.

 

WELCOME to anyone who would like to join the choir in preparing special music for Maundy Thursday and Easter.  Please meet us at rehearsal on Thursday night, March 25 at 7:00 pm.  Lois

 

GIVING JUG collections for the months of January, February and March will be to send Iowa Beef Sticks to our overseas troops.

 

EASTER LILIES – for those who would like to get an Easter Lily in memory or in honor of a loved one there is a sign up sheet on the counter in Fellowship Hall.

 

PACKAGING DRY FOOD FOR THE HUNGRY IN HAITI is at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Gym, 201 E. Church St., Marshalltown, on Sunday, March 7th, 1 - 3 pm, the area Lutheran Churches are invited to package dry food for the hungry through Outreach International out of Union, IA.  Outreach International brings dried foods (rice, soy, veggies, and vitamins) to the packaging site to be sealed into bags and shipped to Haiti.  Elementary aged children through adults are able to help with this and need to sign up by Feb. 28.  Each volunteer is asked to contribute $25 for the food they will package.  If you are unable to package food but wish to sponsor someone to package for you, sponsorships are available.  Checks may be made out to Outreach International and are tax deductible.  Sign up in the fellowship hall.  “Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will provide supplemental funds for this project”. 

 

COMMUNITY Y OF MARSHALLTOWN – the missions of the YMCA and YWCA  are deeply rooted in the Christian faith.  The Y has supported the faith community ofMarshalltown for almost 100 years.  More recently that includes:

 

1)   Local pastors are able to schedule the use of a Community Y meeting room for such meetings as the Ministerial Alliance.

 

2)  The Community Y Christian Emphasis Committee meets quarterly to review, from a Christian perspective, issue that affect today’s families and youth and to maintain a tie between the Y and the faith community.

 

3)   The Y is made available to churches to rent for activity nights.

 

The mission statements of both the national YMCA and the YWCA state their strong tie to the Christian faith.  The community Y of Marshalltown is committed to this tradition
