The Rev Michael J. Herschberger was installed as
the pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church, on Sunday, February 07, 2010.
Pastor Herschberger grew up in southwest
Minnesota graduating from Ivanhoe High School in Ivanhoe, Minnesota. He received
a bachelor’s degree in biology from Bemidji State University, Bemidji,
Minnesota. He worked as a chemist for ECOLAB in St. Paul, Minnesota prior to
entering Luther Northwestern Theological Seminary in St. Paul. He received his
Master’s of Divinity Degree in May of 1989 and was ordained July 1, 1989.
Pastor Herschberger's ministry began in Viking
Minnesota in 1989 where he served Zion and Oak Ridge Lutheran Churches. He also
served Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel, Minnesota prior to moving to Iowa
where he served Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth. Most recently Pastor
Herschberger served as Visitation Pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in Des Moines.
He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Grand View University in Des
Moines, teaching in the Religion and Philosophy Department.
Pastor Herschberger has served on the Riverside
Lutheran Bible Camp Board of Directors in Story City, Ellsworth Community
Library Board, and numerous committees and boards in the Synod and communities
in which he has lived. He enjoys great outdoors activities, reading, and
family events.
Pastor Herschberger's family includes his wife,
Rhonda, who is a Human Resource Associate for Bethany Life Communities in Story
City. Their oldest son, Timothy, is a 2005 graduate of South Hamilton School of
Jewell and a 2009 graduate of the University of Iowa with a B.B.S. degree in
Economics. Timothy currently is a law student at Emory University School of Law
in Atlanta, Georgia. Christopher, their youngest son, will graduate from South
Hamilton High School in May 2010. He will attend the University of Iowa in the
fall of 2010.
Pastor Mike is a caring, creative confident
individual who enjoys youth and teaching confirmation. He is very open to
discussing issues involving the local church or the larger church. Pastor Mike
recognizes need to involve members of the congregation in the various leadership
roles in ministry. He likes to involve lay worship assistants.
